Fine Binding. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. Not Stated (illustrator). A uniformly bound set of the poetical works of Robert Bridges, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and John Keats. Handsomely bound in half contemporary morocco with gilt detailing. Three beautifully and uniformly bound collections of poetry by renowned eighteenth and nineteenth-century poets Percy Bysshe Shelley Robert Bridges, John Keats, and Robert Bridges. This set is comprised of: (I) Poetical Works of Robert Bridges, Excluding the Eight Dramas, published in 1914, (II)The Poetical Works of John Keats, published in 1929 and edited by H. Buxton Forman, and (III)The Complete Poetical Works of Percy Bysshe Shelley, published in 1927 and edited by Thomas Hutchinson.Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) and John Keats (1795-1821) were both poets during the Romantic period, characterised by sensitivity, connection to nature, and emotion. Shelley was a radical poet and identified heavily with leftist politics and ideals; he was also married to Mary Shelley, known for her gothic literature,Frankensteinin particular. John Keats's poetry evoked heavy themes of nature and he often used natural imagery and extreme emotion in his works. Tragically, both Shelley and Keats died young, Shelley during a shipwreck at age thirty, and Keats of tuberculosis at only age twenty-five.Robert Bridges (1844-1930) was an English poet during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and his works evoked strong Christian themes and he is responsible for many well-known hymns. He was a Poet Laureate from 1913 to 1930.All three works contain a frontispiece portrait of the author. This set was previously owned by Cyrillus Norwood, Magister Informer, and his bookplate can be found to the front pastedown of each volume. Handsomely bound in contemporary half morocco with cloth covered boards and gilt detailing to the spine. Externally, lovely, with just a slight bit of fading to the spines and joints. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown of each volume. Internally, all volumes firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. book.

Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. xi, 225, vii, 75 p. 24 cm. Title page vignette. Half leather with orange marbled paper boards. Text printed in double column. Respined with original spine reattached. Hinges repaired internally. New front free endpaper. Bookplate and ink inscription on front pastedown. Ink stamp on bookplate and title page. Foxing. Inscription at bottom of p. 38 in first part and ink mark on p. 3 of same section. This volume constitutes the first collected edition of Keats and the second collected works of Coleridge and Shelley. The Parisian publisher, Galignani, was famous for its pirated editions (Sir Walter Scott referred to the shop as the "old pirate's den") but the firm did have the cooperation of family members and literary friends of all three poets when assembling this volume. For example, each poet's work is preceded by a short life of the author, the memoir of Keats being produced by Leigh Hunt. Hunt also sent along some unpublished Keats poems in his possession to be included. Keats' literary executor, Charles Armitage Brown, disliked Hunt's portrayal of his friend, but Brown's own biography of Keats was not ready in time for this edition and was not published until 1937. The memoir of Shelley was written by his wife Mary Shelley who also helped the publication of this edition by allowing the publisher access to Shelley's papers.
