Erstausgabe
Zustand: Good. 1844. Paperback. A celebrated novel written by Brougham as a memorial to his daughter. A note in a near contemporary hand on the front end-paper on the first volume states "This book was written by Lord Brougham and received such a scathing criticism from the "Times" that the author at once suppressed the work." This novel is one of the legendary false rarities of the English book trade and the above note would have, no doubt, continued to fuel the tale had not Michael Sadlier put the record straight. See his entry 353 for the detailed discussion. Sometime re-bound in paper covered boards. Printed title labels, t.e.g., marbled edges. First edition copy. . . .
