Erstausgabe
Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). First edition. A very scarce copy of Volume II of Ludwig von Mühlenfels's manual of German literature, with extracts in the original German. The first edition of Volume II of this very scarce work in a quarter cloth binding. Ludwig von Mühlenfels (1793-1861) was a German literary historian. In the early nineteenth century, he worked for the local district court, but was later arrested as part of an investigation into "treasonous and other dangerous activities". He was ordered to be brought to trial in 1821, but he escaped from the Berlin city bailiff. In 1828, he became a professor of German and Nordic languages â â and literature at the University of London. In this work, which he published for the use of the students of the University of London, Mühlenfels compiled a selection of German poetry for study. This Volume II contains a selection of epic, lyrical and dramatic German poetry, from notable writers such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Schlegel and Friedrich Schiller. In a quarter cloth binding. Externally sound, with small tears to the head of the front joint and the tail of the rear joint. Losses to the spine label, which is somewhat sunned. Shelf wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd spot throughout. Very Good. book.
