Softcover. Zustand: g+ to vg. Sixth edition. Octavo. Unpaginated, 20pp. Original illustrated stapled wraps with red lettering on cover. Illustrated title page. The Marshak-Lebedev collaborations produced close to 50 publications, many of them popular and republished in many editions. This unusual children's story by Marshak features the tumultuous relationship between an old woman and her poodle. Illustrated with extraordinary drawings, reproduced in chromolithographs, by Lebedev, known for combining cubist techniques with the elements of folk 'lubok' in highly original representations. Text in Russian. Light wear along edges of wraps with small chips and age-toned. Block separated from covers but complete, and lightly age-toned. Wraps in overall good+, interior in very good condition. Samuil Yakovlevich Marshak (1887- 1964) was a Russian and Soviet writer of Jewish decent, translator and children's poet. He is considered "the founder of Russia's (Soviet) children's literature." (Maxim Gorki). Vladimir Vasilyevich Lebedev (1891 - 1967) was a Soviet painter and graphic artist considered the "King of the Children's Book" in the 1920s. Next to Poodle he worked with Marshal on the titles Circus, Ice Cream, Tale About a Foolish Mouse, Moustached and Striped, Book of Many Colours, Twelve Months and Luggage.
