Two works in one volume, 8vo, engraved frontispiece and pp. [ii], 339, [1], [10] index; [iv], 83; contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt (rubbed but sound, head of spine a little chipped), morocco label. First edition of Orrery's biography of Swift, with the two cancelled leaves (K4 and L7) as usual. This is the first major study of Swift by one who knew him, many times reprinted. Bound with the 'second' edition of Berkeley's Querist - in fact the third London edition, reprinted from the Dublin second (1750). Provenance: signature 'J. Green' twice on the endpapers. This is John Green (1706-79), Bishop of Lincoln, a prominent Whig, whose patron was the Duke of Newcastle. Teerink, Swift, 1333 (there are copies of this book on thick paper - this may be one of them); Keynes, Berkeley, 60.

Mit 2 gefalteten Stammtafeln. XVI, 202 S. Einfacher Pappband der Zeit. - Einband etwas fleckig, Kanten leicht berieben, insgesamt gut erhaltenes Exemplar. Seltene erste deutsche Ausgabe der "Letters from Italy in 1754 and 1755", posthum 1774 veröffentlicht. - DNB II, S. 1020, Pine-Coffin 754; Schudt, Italienreisen S. 85 u. 404; Engelmann II, S. 602.
