Softcover. Zustand: Good. Unknown edition. Folio. 7pp. Wrappers. The delicate wrappers are torn and chipped, especially along the edges of the rear wrapper which is curiously printed upside down, soiling to the wrappers and the title page, a complete but good only copy. An instrumental piece for piano. Plate imprint, "Forget me not Waltz 5." While Oscar Wilde's name and image appear on the front wrapper and are repeated on the title page, it's clear he had nothing to do with the production of this piece. It was common at the time to use something popular (whether a public figure, a fictional character, or a fashion trend) as the subject for a piece of sheet music, even if there were no lyrics about the subject included; but it was a particularly lucrative practice in the 1880s to use Oscar Wilde's appearance. Wilde caused quite a stir in the States when he crossed the pond to give his 1882 lecture tour and this piece was created to cash in on his popularity. Unrecorded by *OCLC* and appears equally scarce in the trade.
