Erstausgabe
12mo, pp. [ii], 247, [1], [1] index; contemporary calf, gilt, spine gilt, dark red morocco label (some wear to spine, joints cracked). First Glasgow edition: first published in London in 1722. Provenance. Ownership inscription on endpaper of Caroline H. Callander, with the date 'July 27th 98'. This must be Caroline Henrietta Callender (b. 1779), who was married in 1806 to Thomas Sheridan (1775-1817), reprobate son of the playwright. The volume also has the bookplate of 'Richard Brinsley Sheridan', but this is her son, namesake of his grandfather, who married an heiress and lived the life of a country gentleman at Frampton Court, Dorset. Still, the book was in the Sheridan family library and could have been seen and used by the great man. Foxon p. 555.
