Leather. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. None (illustrator). The author's copies of these two volumes of his work on Saint Cyrpian, with the author's extra annotations throughout. Complete in two volumes. The author's copies, with ink and pencil annotations throughout each volume, with numerous additional leaves of annotations bound into each volumes. 'Testimony' has the author's ink signature to the recto to the front endpaper, and to the half title page of 'Life and Times'. These works look at the life of Saint Cyprian, with one volume being a 'Life and Times' of him, and the other being an essay on the treatment and analysis of Cyprian. Saint Cyprian was a bishop of Carthage and an early Christian writer. He was a controversial figure during his life, however he has reached martyrdom since his death. A lot of what we know about his life his from the biography 'The Life and Passion of St. Cyprian', written by Pontius the Deacon shortly after the death of Cyprian. George Poole was a clergyman and author, being a curate at Twickenham, Edinburgh, Shrewsbury, and Leeds, as well as being a vicar at Welford, Northamptonshire. He was an advocate of the Goth Revival, and published many works during his life. Some include 'The Exile's Return', 'A History of the Church in America', 'Churches of Yorkshire', and 'The Appropriate Character of Church Architecture'. In the original half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Light rubbing to the paper to the boards, resulting in a little loss to the rear board of 'Life and Times'. Minor mark to the rear board of 'Testimony'. Very light rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Hinges of 'Testimony' are starting but firm. Author's signature to the recto to the front endpaper of 'Testimony', and to the half title page of 'Life and Times'. Prior owner's pencil inscription to the recto to the front endpapers, 'V. J. A. Flynn, Thornton's, Oxford, Dec, 1963'. Small label to the head of the front pastedown of 'Testimony'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with light scattered spots. Author's ink inscription to the head of the title page of 'Testimony', with further annotations throughout the textblocks. Very Good Indeed. signed by author. book.

Halbleder. Poole, George Ayliffe, und J. W. Hugall. An Historical & Descriptive Guide to York Cathedral and Its Antiquities. With a History and Description of the Minster Organ. York. (1850).
