This monumental work is the first full treatment of New Zealand molluscs since the publication in 1913 of Henry Suter's Manual of the New Zealand Mollusca, now out of print. Over a thousand new species have been added since Suter's day, as well as many additional records of exotic species, and the entire nomenclature has been revised to comply with modern practice. New Zealand Mollusca covers the entire New Zealand faunal area and refers to every known living species in our region: marine, freshwater, and land, including the soft-bodied or shell-less molluscs amounting to a total of 2,245 species. The treatment is systematic. Each entry, although commendably terse, gives a small description, history and location with keyed bibliography and illustrated reference. The illustrations, covering 1,550 species, include sixteen full page plates in colour, sixty-six in monochrome, and 120 text figures. 14+500 pp., 120 figs 82 pls, linen bound 4.
