Hardcover. Zustand: Near fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: near fine. Presentation copy of Dutch: A Memoir of Ronald Reagan by Edmund Morris, inscribed to General Colin L. Powell. (illustrator). First Edition, Second Printing. Octavo, xx, 874pp. Blue hardcover, title stamped in silver on spine. The second printing, lacking the first edition statement. No notable wear from handling. In the publisher's dust jacket, retail price on front flap, trace of shelf wear, a near fine example. Inscribed on the title page: "To General Colin L. Powell - with thanks more many kindnesses, especially that poignant anecdote on pp. 651-2. Regards, Edmund Morris." The anecdote shared by Colin Powell was on Ronald Reagan's last visit to the Oval Office, during his final national-security briefing, Powell reported "Mr. President, the world is quiet today." Colin Powell (1937-2021) served as the United States Secretary of State during the George W. Bush administration, the first African American to hold the post. He also served as National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan (1987-1989) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989-1993. Powell was discussed as a possible Republican presidential contender in 1996 and 2000, but he declined to run both times. He passed away in 2021, survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Alma Powell.
