Works by the popular 19th century poet, who began her careers writing for Dickens' Household Words and All the Year Round.~Legends and Lyrics was first published in 1858, a few years before her death from tuberculosis. This "New Edition" published after her death contains an Introduction by Dickens. This copy in full polished calf, with double rule in gold and single rule in blind to the perimeters of the boards; raised bands with decorations blocked in gold and red and green morocco labels. Some scattered foxing to the preliminary pages. Armorial bookplate. Very Good binding.

Binding signed by Mudie. A book of verse by Queen Victoria's favourite poet, Adelaide Anne Procter [ 1825 - 1864 ]. Her early death perhaps connected with her ceaseless charitable work, which is reflected in her poetry - fallen women, homelessness & poverty topics she writes about frequently. Much of her verse appeared in Charles Dickens' 'Household Words' & he contributes an introduction. 400 grams.

She was actively involved in feminist groups and journals, and through her charity work helped unemployed women and the homeless. She died of TB. A nice copy. 8vo.
