There are several exterior views but the majority of the plates show the elegant decoration and furnishing of the interiors. The description and twenty-four plates of Carlton House, London home of the Prince Regent (later George IV) are of particular interest, as the structure was demolished in 1826. At the end of the third volume is a list of portraits in the royal collections described in the text. Plates on thick wove paper, two watermarked J. W(Whatman). Good clean impressions. Pyne specialised in picturesque settings including groups of people rendered in pen, ink and watercolour. He was one of the founders of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1804. His book The Costume of Great Britain, including 60 prints of professional and working-class men and women and scenes from everyday life and it attracted the attention of the publisher Rudolph Ackermann- resulting in this work of soft ground etchings of the working rural classes. These genre studies of working people in England were specifically to assist amateur and professional artists. The figures are similar in style to the work of George Morland.
