Leather. Zustand: Good. Unamed (illustrator). A comprehensive family bible, profusely illustrated with ninety-seven plates across both volumes. Edited by Reverend Alexander Fletcher. Illustrated throughout, with forty plates to vol I and fifty seven plates to volume II. An engraved title page per volume. Undated, dated using Copac. Alexander Fletcher was a Scottish kirk minister and a Congregationalist divine in England. He wrote many devotional works. In uniform calf bindings. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the spines and joints. A few marks to boards. rubbing to spines is mostly to the head and tail. Small chips to spine labels. Cracks to the joints of volume I resulting in the front hinge being weak and rear hinge tender. Cracks to the tail of both joints to volume II. Hinges to volume II are tender. Lacking front endpapers to volume I. Engraved title page has been damaged to volume I, lacking the top portion affecting readability. Prior owner's inscription has been coloured over to engraved title page. Small ink spill to the head of final twenty pages of volume I, not affecting text. Creasing to the title page and endpapers to volume II. Tape repairs to the first few pages of volume II. Prior owner's inscription covered to the verso of front endpaper to volume II. Internally, works are firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned. Several small closed tears to plates throughout volume II, not affecting image. The odd marks to pages. Plates to both volumes have small tidemarks to the tail of pages and spots. Tissue guard to start of volume I has an ink spill. Instances of marks to pages and occasional spots throughout, not affecting the text. Good. book.

Spine leather detached, worn, with a large vertical crease/gash running through the middle. A few pages have been dogeared, bent or creased. Some chipping. Lightly browned with very occasional foxing. Internally a relatively nice copy. Inquire if you need further information.

Author's advertisements to the rear. In the original full blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and rubbing to the extremities. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spine. Fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with light scattered spotting mostly to the first and last few pages. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Pencil notes to the front endpaper. Good. book.

Alexander Fletcher. The four pages for family record bound between the Testaments are unused. New Testament is followed by an 80 page index and concise dictionary of the Bible. Listed as Hills 1777. Heavy rubbing along edges of binding. 4 1/2" closed tear along lower front joint. Closed tears with minor chipping along fore-edge of front free endpaper. Clear water-staining along fore-edge of very first pages (not affecting images or text). Verso of plate 27 partly taped. Minor to moderate foxing / age-toning throughout. A few tissue-guards are missing, and some are partly torn. Binding in overall good-, interior in good- to good+ condition.
