Presentation copy signed by Helen S. Woodruff and seven other noteworthy female authors who were hostesses at a luncheon given on February 1, 1918: mystery writer Mary Robert Rinehart, famous children's authors Frances Hodgson Burnett and Kate Douglas Wiggin, Maria Thompson Daviess, playwright Eleanor Gates, Alice Hegan Rice, and one other female author. Woodruff has additionally inscribed the title page to the former owner. An Alabaman, her novels are forgotten now; she notably donated all profits from them to charity. [viii], 270 pp. Bound in publisher's pale green cloth with gilt lettering. Good only with gutters colored-in with ink, faint "X" written on spine, slight lean, light wear and dust-soiling, lacking dust jacket. A very special copy with signatures from a number of important early 20th century American women authors.
