Cloth. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. Not Stated (illustrator). Eleven smart volumes of poetry by notable poets such as Robert Herrick and John Donne, from the Muses' Library series. Eleven volumes in the publisher's original cloth bindings, with gilt detailing to the spines.Eleven volumes of poetry from the Muses' Library compiled and published by George Routledge and Sons, including Robert Herrick's The Hesperides, the poems of John Donne, and William Morris' The Life and Death of Jason, among others. Each volume is edited and introduced by various well-known literary critics such as George Saintsbury and A. H. Bullen, some of whom were writers themselves, such as A. C. Swinburne. Apart from 'The Seasons' by James Thomson, the volumes from this selection are now scarce in this particular edition. Undated, dated through copies held at the British Library. This selection comprises: Poems of John Donne: Volumes I and II; edited by E. K. Chambers, with an introduction by George Saintsbury (1905, revised edition of the 1896 edition) Two sets of The Hesperides and Noble Numbers: Volumes I and II by Robert Herrick; edited by Alfred Pollard, with a preface by A. C. Swinburne (1905, revised edition of the 1898 edition) Poems of William Browne of Tavistock: Volumes I and II; edited by Gordon Goodwin, with an introduction by A. H. Bullen (1905) Poems of Andrew Marvell, edited by G. A. Aitken (1905) The Seasons by James Thomson; edited by Henry D. Roberts, to which are added, a biographical note and a critical study by Edmund Gosse (1906) The Life and Death of Jason, a Poem by William Morris, with an introduction by John Drinkwater (1911) In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally smart, with minor shelf wear to the extremities. Gilt remains bright overall, with just a little fading to the gilt of the William Browne volumes and one set of the Robert Herrick volumes. A little shelf wear to the boards of one set of the Robert Herrick volumes. Faint marks to the boards of the Andrew Marvell and William Morris volumes. Ink inscription to the front free end papers of the John Donne volumes and of one set of the Robert Herrick volumes. Neat ink inscriptions and underlinings to many pages of the William Morris volume, including inscriptions to the end papers and rear paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, except for a little spotting to the paste downs and end papers. Very Good Indeed. book.
