Lacking volume I. Samuel Johnson was an important writer and lexicographer. His dictionary was first published in 1755 and was hugely successful. For over 100 years his dictionary was the leading reference work in the field, until the publication of the Oxford English Dictionary. This volume contains: Philological Tracts, Political Tracts, Miscellaneous Tracts, Reviews and Criticism, The Lives of The English Poets, Lives of Eminent Persons Poems, and The Rambler. Only half of the Rambler is included in this set, with half features in volume I which is lacking from this set. 'The Rambler' was a periodical by Samuel Johnson. This publication primarily featured essays and works of non-fiction, with a total of 208 articles published across the set. Samuel Johnson was a poet, essayist, literary critic and lexicographer. Born in 1709, Johnson was a committed Tory, and a devout Anglican. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally worn.
