Samuel Newman was a clergyman in colonial Massachusetts whose concordance of the Bible, first published in London in 1643, surpassed any previous work of its kind. This 1662 edition is the first to have this title. The concordance was reprinted at least as late as 1889, almost 250 years after its first publication.

A notably clean and bright copy aside from the few mentioned faults. No damp staining and no foxing. A rare work, with none at auction since 1965.

Binding held by one cord only between leaves 2F6 and 2G, and between 2Y6 and 2Z. Binding detached between 3R6 and 3S, and detached between 3X6 and 3Y, and detached between 3Z6 and 4A. Twenty-five gatherings working loose. Pages age toned due to paper type, with scattered spotting and handling marks throughout. Inscriptions to a rear blank. Fair. book.

Some loss to spine, wear along edges of covers. Faint foxing throughout text block. A scarce example, signed on the front flyleaf by Judge Ulric Sloane. Ulric Sloane was "Ohio's foremost criminal lawyer," according to the Chillicothe Gazette and a number of other Ohio newspapers in the late 19th century. Upon his passing on January 21, 1912, Sloane was recognized as one of the most successful criminal law experts in the country. He appeared in more than 200 murder cases throughout his career, with only one client sentenced to death in 1905.
