Zustand: Very Good. [30], 353, [11], 4 folding engraved plates (2 hand coloured). 4to. HB. Later quarter Morocco, raised bands, gt.; orig. marbled boards, endpapers and top-edge. Some spotting to title page and first few pages, but largely clean; wide margins. Vg. ZBI 3801. There are two copies of each of the two plates (one uncoloured and one coloured). An early treatise on shipworms (Teredo), a worm-like marine mollusc which bores into submerged timber. While resident in the Netherlands, Sellius used a microscope to study the shipworm which was causing great damage to Dutch ships and dikes.
