Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: g to vg. First UK edition. Quarto (9 x 6"). xliv, 486pp (Vol. 1); xiv, 364, [2], 16pp (Publisher's catalogue) (Vol. 2). Original black stamped burgundy cloth, with gold lettering to spines. Colored lithographic frontispiece in each volume. This work undertakes the Herculean task of weaving the testimony of the Egyptian records into a consecutive history of the long line of Pharaonic Dynasties, derived solely from these ancient and authentic sources, and free of all coloring and intermixture from the traditions given at second-hand by the classic writers. This 2-vol. set is complete with its two large folded colored maps and four Tables at rear. Spines age-toned. Tail of spines slightly rubbed. Bindings in overall good, interior in very good condition. About the author: Heinrich Karl Brugsch (1827-1894) was a German Egyptologist who was associated with Auguste Mariette in his excavations at Memphis. Brugsch became director of the School of Egyptology at Cairo, producing numerous very valuable works and pioneering the decipherment of Demotic, the simplified script of the later Egyptian periods.
