Vellum. Zustand: Very Good. None (illustrator). A fascinating limited edition comprising the notebooks of Romantic Percy Bysshe Shelley, edited and deciphered by Buxton Forman. Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) was a radical Romantic poet whose renown grew after his tragically young death. Admirers of his prose and essays include Gandhi, Karl Marx and George Bernard Shaw, and his poetical works influenced the likes of Browning, Hardy and Yeats, not to say the literary circles he ran in at the time of his death, including Lord Byron and his wife, Mary Shelley. Famously, he drowned in Italy and so his body was cremated upon discovery: his heart resisted the flames, and was preserved in spirits and returned to his wife.Deciphered, edited and with the ownership bookplate of Harry Buxton Forman. Buxton Forman was a Victorian bibliographer best known for his works on Keats and Shelley.Complete in three volumes.A limited edition, with four hundred and sixty-five copies produced.Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author to the first volume, as well as a facsimile to the rear of volume II.Containing the author's bookplate, which has been designed by Bell Scott. With the bookplate of Elizabeth Watson Diamond's bookplate to the front endpaper. Watson Diamond was a collector of bookplates and owner of the Hyacinth Press.A smart example of this uncommon collection. In the publisher's original quarter vellum binding. Externally generally smart; rubbing to the joints, and spines are a little discoloured. Extremities are a touch bumped. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown and endpaper of each volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are spotted throughout. Very Good. book.
