Vellum. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. Various (illustrator). A limited edition illustrated edition of this important seventeenth century travel work, signed by the editor, N. M. Penzer. A limited edition de luxe, limited to 975 numbered copies; this copy is out-of-series.Signed by the editor, N. M. Penzer, to the verso of the front endpaper, 'A. Greig, with many thanks and kindest regards, N. M. Penzer, Oct 25th, 1927'.Illustrated with three folding maps, and four plates.'A New Voyage Round the World' is an extensive travel work, documenting the scientifically minded ex-pirate William Dampier's journey around the world. Dampier made note of much during his travels, which results in an incredibly rich read, looking to not only the customs and habits of different countries, but on the local horticulture, animal life, and rivers and geography. As a result, this work is a fascinating look into the seventeenth century world. This work was very popular when it was published, and went though at least three editions in the first year. The tour described in this work took twelve years. Dampier was the first Englishman to map parts of Australia and New Guinea.Edited by Norman Mosley Penzer, a scholar who was an eminent authority on Sir Richard Francis Burton. With an introduction by Sir Albert Gray.Collated, complete. In the original publisher's quarter vellum binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the extremities. Light marks to the vellum, as is usual to see, and some lighter marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. signed by author. book.
