An anti-slavery speech arguing (ultimately unsuccessful) against the repeal of the Missouri Compromise that had been passed in 1820. In FAIR/GOOD condition with moderate soiling/darkening to the covers, with a few creases and minor spots of foxing. One 1 inch square area at the upper left front corner appears to have been wiped with an eraser. Moderate to heavy edge wear, with some chipping, minor tears and creasing, especially along the fore edge. Minor soiling and darkening throughout. [Sabin 93663].

Hardcover, no dust jacket. Possibly inscribed by [the author]. Inscription reads: "George Arthur Wells, Given him by the Bishop of Winchester as a Rememberance of July 7th, 1801." Ex-library with light foxing. Boards and spine are VERY worn. Lower half of spine has detached from front board, but is still attached by back board. Spine is creased all the way down seam, and starting to detach at the top of the board as well. Very curled and chipped spine at top and bottom. Edge worn. Corners are very scuffed and chipping. 573 pages. 573 pp.
