Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good+ dj. Illustrated by (dj) Chas. R. Gardner (illustrator). First American Edition. [square tight copy, minimal shelfwear, tiny stain on top edge; jacket a little faded at spine, small nicks at several corners (minimal paper loss), very shallow chipping to base of spine]. Psychological novel exploring "the shattering effects of the disappearance of little Anna on the farm world in which she lives, the mystery of Fritz, her foster brother and murderer, [and] the triumphant struggle of Christian, Anna's father, to protect his daughter's murderer and reconcile him to life." This was the first book by the author, who was primarily a dancer and film actress, and aroused great controversy at the time of its initial publication; based on an actual 19th-century crime, it was well-reviewed and translated into eleven languages, and remains in print (in German) to this day.
