With private library bookplate (Bishop White Parish Library Association of Philadelphia) to front pastedown. Dr. Cooke (1783-1853) was the third dean of the Louisville School of Medicine and gained fame for his curative powers during the cholera outbreak of 1833. The current two works were outgrowths of a profound religious conversion Cooke experienced around 1810, the circumstances of which are related early in the first volume.
