Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. A4. pp. [i], 135, [i]., recto only. Original red card covers with metal clips and cut out title. With typed property of Timon Films Limited, c/o 47 Dean Street, London W.1. and phone number on title-page Ð Andrew Sinclair is the sole director of Timon Films Limited. Occasional handwritten ink corrections in the text. Two handwritten pencil notes on title-page, relating to possible shots such as storm head, iron railings, two wings, Palladian bridge (Poetic) and a mention of Prior Park as a possible film location. Also included a loosely inserted four-page leaflet on Prior Park which was built in the eighteenth century and is situated near Bath. It is doubtful that the house was used as stills from the film suggest Heatherden Hall at Pinewood Studios as a more likely contender. Sinclair based the film, which he updated, on his earlier book of the same name (1959) which according to Faber, who have reissued it, 'was an immense success and caused something of a stir.' The book draws on Sinclair's experiences doing his National Service in the Coldstream Guards. The film of 'The Breaking of Bumbo' is a comedy contrasting the demands of a military life with the temptations of the early 1960s, and the sexual revolution. Champagne radicals lure Bumbo, who attended Eton on a scholarship, away from the straight and narrow. The film gave Joanna Lumley her first proper role, but was never released by EMI on the grounds of uncommerciality. It didn't surface anywhere until 1975 when it was aired on BBC2 - now it's available on DVD. Andrew Sinclair (born 1935) is a novelist, historian, biographer, critic and filmmaker and a founding member of Churchill College, Cambridge. A very good copy. Very good.
