Erstausgabe
Cloth. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Osbert Lancaster (illustrator). First edition. A charming travelogue of Greece, beautifully depicted by the author both in colour and in black and white with some striking illustrations. The first edition. Noted English cartoonist Osbert Lancaster was posted to Greece in 1944 as a press attaché to the British embassy in Athens, where his task was to maintain trust and good relations between Britain and the international press corps. After that, he decided to travel the country, exploring Attica, Boeotia and Arcadia, and also visited Thessaly, Epirus and some of the islands. The present volume, being the first edition 1947, is an account of the author's travels compiled from his observations and sketches, which provides a lyrical account of a post-war Greece as well as a striking picture book. An excellent work.Illustrated with eight stunning full page coloured plates and six full page line drawings, as well as illustrations in text. Collated, complete. With the unclipped dust wrapper.Acquired from the sale of Paul Gallico's library, American novelist and short story and spots writer, best remembered for The Snow Goose and The Poseidon Adventure. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The dust wrapper is sound with some shelf wear and chipping, a minor loss tot he head of the spine and a minor puncture mark to the spine, a touch of sunning; unclipped. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with eight stunning full page coloured plates and six full page line drawings, as well as illustrations in text. Collated, complete. Near Fine. book.
