Lucien Steinberg (1926-2008) was born in Romania, emigrated to Palestine with his family in 1943, and moved to Paris in 1948, where he lived for the rest of his life. He is considered one of the first historians to specifically focus on Jewish resistance during the holocaust. He was president of the Union of Jews for Resistance and Mutual Aid (UJRE) and served on the board of the (ME MRJ) , the association for Memory of Jewish resistance to the ME (forced labor) . This volume extensively surveys armed Jewish resistance movements throughout occupied Europe, country by country, as well as insurrections and uprisings in death and labor camps.
