The poems are influenced by Procter's own religious beliefs, being a Catholic, as well as her charity works, such as homelessness, poverty, and fallen women. Volume I with a frontispiece. Her father, the poet Bryan Waller Procter, was also a friend with Charles Dickens, as well as being friends with Elizabeth Gaskell, Leigh Hunt, and Charles Lamb.
