Lengthy presentation inscription to a James Williamson "as A Premium for committing the 119th psalm to Memory in Townsend St. Sabbath School' in Belfast (presumedly the Belfast on Prince Edward Island, Canada) , May 12th, 1850. James Gardiner (1688-1745) was born in Carriden, Scotland and joined the British Army at age 14 and was promoted to Colonel in 1743. His was a reputation as a carouser and womanizer but in 1719, at age 31, he claimed to have a vison of Christ on the cross and hearing the words, "Oh Sinner, did I suffer this for you and are these your returns?". Though he remained as military man (he was killed in the Jacobite uprising in 1745), he became devoutly religious hence this inspirational biography by Doddridge.
