Extremities slightly worn, joints partially cracked. Ownership inscription of W.E. Pollard to front pastedown. A scarce reprint of Philip Doddridge?s (1702-1751) biography of Colonel James Gardiner (1688-1745) after his death in the Battle of Prestonpans while fighting in the Jacobite uprising.

A reprint of this perennially popular Jacobite memoir which, per the advertisement following the title-page ?never before appeared in its present form; being printed on a large type, it is calculated to suit the aged as well as the young Reader?
