Early issues of vols 1 and 2 of the Naturalist's Library Ornithology series, originally issued in 1833. Half morocco, marbled paper on boards. Spine with four raised bands and diced decoration, ruled and lettered in gilt. Boards and extremities rubbed; spine bright though one raised band worn. All edges marbled. Inscription dated 1868 on front pastedown. LACKING two of the 66 hand-coloured, tissue-guarded plates (which include the illustrations to the title pages), drawn by James Stewart and engraved on steel by William Lizars, who had engraved the first ten plates for J. J. Audubon's 'Birds of America'. The missing plates are no. XXXII of 34 plates in vol.I, and plate II of 32 plates in vol.II. Tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece to both vols. Internally tight and clean, with the hand-coloured plates fbright. About very good.
