Broadside certificate, 11 x 15 inches, illustrated from a lithograph of the school buildings (Lith. By Strobridge & Co., Cin. O), 4 x 7 ¾ inches, entitling P. B. Roberts or his assigns to one scholarship in the Biblical Institute and conferring upon him the privilege of sending "one student for the public." Signed by the college President, William K. Pendleton, January 7, 1867, less than a year after the death of the school's founder and first president, Alexander Campbell. Manuscript dockets on verso, signed by Roberts and William W. Leland, the first, signed by Roberts, assigning the scholarship to Leland, the second, signed by Leland, assigned the scholarship to the trustees of Chester Academy in Vermont. Pendleton (1817-1899) succeeded Campbell as President of Bethany College and served in that capacity, 1841-1886; Leland (1821-1879), a native of Vermont, served on General Grant's staff during the Civil War. Not recorded on OCLC. Old folds, with some tape repair on verso, else very good.

H. Hooper for the Ashendene Press edition of Malory in 1913. On Roma Michaelangelo paper , handmade by Fabriano. There were 30 impressions: 3 proofs and 27 numbered copies in the press. This is copy No 1, Dr. Monell's copy. A fine copy. .
