Erstausgabe
First edition. First edition. Illustrated with black and white and color photographs throughout. 208 pp. 1 vols. 4to. History of the Orange County Hunt, founded as a drag hunt in 1900 in Goshen, New York, by Edward H. Harriman with Frank Gray Griswold and two of his friends. After an invitation to hunt at The Plains in the Virginia Piedmont in the 1902-1903 season, Harriman and friends (among them Robert Goelet, Robert L. Gerry, and other members of the Gerry family) soon determined to establish the Orange County Hunt Club and build a clubhouse in The Plains, on land purchased from William Skinker whose farm Windy Knoll was the hunt's first leased property. After a decade of animosity among local landowners, relations improved and the club hunted over a wider terrain. Fletcher Harper, a scion of the publishing family, was M.F.H. or joint master from 1920 to 1953 and exercised a significant influence. An important hunt history, beautifully produced. Scarlet cloth, spine titled in dust jacket. Fine in fine pictorial dust jacket Illustrated with black and white and color photographs throughout. 208 pp. 1 vols. 4to.
