Softcover. Zustand: good condition. AFRICAN STUDIES / WAR & CONFLICT / WOMEN'S STUDIES - - Abducted at the age of eleven, Evelyn Amony spent nearly eleven years inside the Lord's Resistance Army, becoming a forced wife to Joseph Kony and mother to his children. She takes the reader into the inner circles of LRA commanders and reveals unprecedented personal and domestic details about Joseph Kony. Her account unflinchingly conveys the moral difficulties of choosing survival in a situation fraught with violence, threat, and death. - Amony was freed following her capture by the Ugandan military. Despite the trauma she endured with the LRA, Amony joined a Ugandan peace delegation to the LRA, trying to convince Kony to end the war that had lasted more than two decades. She recounts those experiences, as well as the stigma she and her children faced when she returned home as an adult. - This extraordinary testimony shatters stereotypes of war-affected women, revealing the complex ways that Amony navigated life inside the LRA and her current work as a human rights advocate to make a better life for her children and other women affected by war. - Evelyn Amony provides penetrating insights into one of the most notorious yet least understood armed groups, the Lord's Resistance Army. This is an invaluable account of what a woman experienced during years in captivity and, after escaping, her struggle to regain her humanity and agency. Essential reading for anyone studying armed Opposition groups, women and war, transitional justice, and recovery. - - Evely Amory is a human rights advocate for war-affected women in northern Uganda, working as chair of the Women's Advocacy Network and with the Justice and Reconciliation Project in Gulu, Uganda. Erin baines is an associate Professor in the Liu Institute for Global Issues at the University of British Columbia and the cofounder of the Justice and Reconciliation Project in Gulu, Uganda. She is the author of Vulnerable Bodies: Gender, the UN, and the Global Refugee Crisis. 182 p. photos.

Softcover. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition (softcover issue). [a nice clean as-new book, in flawless condition]. (Wisconsin/Warner Bros. Screenplay Series) Series Trade PB (B&W photographs) Another entry in this outstanding series of published screenplays of classic Warner Bros. films, this one presenting the full script for (in the words of the editor) "a first-rate swashbuckling adventure film that is literate, lavish, and imaginative." Editor Behlmer's typically erudite introduction presents a well-documented and very readable account of the film's conception and production, which also touches briefly on the already well-established swashbuckling tradition in early films. The film, released in 1940, starred Errol Flynn, Brenda Marshall and Claude Rains, was directed by Michael Curtiz, and featured one of the most glorious music scores in cinema history, by the great Erich Wolfgang Korngold. (You should seek out the soundtrack album and play it while reading this script!) (xx).

Erstausgabe
Softcover. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition (softcover issue). [nice bright copy, as-new book, without even a hint of wear]. (Wisconsin/Warner Bros. Screenplay Series) Series Trade PB (B&W photographs) Typically excellent entry in this screenplay series, with an erudite introduction by noted scholar Rudy Behlmer, containing not only copious details about this production, but background on the Robin Hood legend and a brief discussion of other film treatments of same -- a topic about which, it should be noted, Mr. Behlmer was extremely knowledgeable. This, of course, is (as far as I'm concerned) the definitive Robin Hood movie, with Errol Flynn and a perfect supporting cast, one of the great movie scores (by Erich Wolfgang Korngold), and enough terrific moments, visual and verbal, for half-a-dozen movies. "Why -- you speak treason!" "Fluently." [The only problem with this series is its failure to give the names of the actual SCREENWRITERS the prominence they deserve -- their names are on neither the books' covers nor their title pages, but only on the first page of the scripts themselves. Tsk.] (xx).
