Exlibris Heinrich Rickert (Heinrich John Rickert; 25 May 1863 - 25 July 1936), deutscher Philosoph und einer der führenden Neu-Kantianer (vgl. Wikipedia). Insgesamt 41 bildhafte Kupferstichtafeln. Each volume with engraved title-page and each play with a separately printed title page and engraved frontispiece (including two portraits of Shakespeare). Volume 9 contains all the poems and a Life of Shakespeare. Total 41 illustrated copperplates. - "All the plays were paginated and printed separately for the use of playgoers. Like that of 1747, this edition (dedicated to Garrick) was accused of being the worst ever published. To be 'damned with faint praise' sometimes proves the best aid to sales, as in this case. It scored a greater success than any previous issue, one week alone witnessing the sale of 800 sets. Doubtless the beautiful copperplates helped the output considerably" (Jaggard, p. 504). // Condition: Spines of each volume slightly damaged head and tail (about 1mm of the leather is worn away), hinges of vols VI, VII and IX partly bound to crack, not open yet; volume IV with more severe damage to vertical rear edge: the leather is torn away at a lenth of about 5cm, the torn-off gilt leather in two small stripes inside the book and could be used for restoring. Pages partly browned and foxed, still in good condition. - Bell 's Edition of Shakespeare 's Plays, As they are now performed at the Theatres Royal in London. - Paketporto. Heavyweight, additional mailing costs abroad. (DS0320/aZ).
