(ds1) This inventory, prepared by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, is the most ambitious so far undertaken by the Commission. It includes Prehistoric and Roman remains, University and College buildings, churches, public works and large and small houses datong from before 1850, but the inclusion for the first time of accounts of 18th and 19th century buildings as detailed as those for the earlier buildings gives a comprehensiveness not previously obtained in the Inventories. In addition to the aspects of Cambridge already famous, it reveals a 19th century regional development in domestic architecture of considerable accomplishment.
