Buch
Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 8vo. 24pp. Publisher's wrappers, title on cover. The legendary story of Prester John, Christian patriarch in the Muslim and pagan orient, persisted in chronicles of the Christian tradition especially from the 12th to 17th centuries. He was said to be descended from the Three Magi. His locations and deeds accumulated with the telling. A letter said to have been sent by him to the Byzantine Emperor Manuel I Comnenus (1143-1180) further appealed to adherents of the wonder tale. Inspiration in modern times continues in adventure & fantasy novels and games, & includes writers such as John Buchan, and Umberto Eco (Wikipedia). The present article is the inaugural lecture given on 17 May 1966 by Professor Beckingham, Professor of Islamic Studies in the University of London. In very good condition, faint mark at extreme lower left of spine.
