Paperback. Zustand: Good. The country is in crisis. Unrest and inner city tensions feed on unemployment. And as the Government struggles to contain the soaring debt, no one listens. Most are tired of 'PR-savvy' words, tired of the 'blame-game' that poses as debate. Divisions in the Cabinet force the premier's resignation. Because circumstances are too dire to afford the luxury of an election, the Queen calls a meeting of the three main party leaders. Some days previously, the Leader of the Opposition had received a letter that intrigued him. The writer, in fact, had held little hope of making contact. For him, it was one last try. Yet much to his amazement he received a phone call from the opposition leader's secretary. When they met, the Leader of the Opposition was polite, but blunt: 'Why should you see the answer when all the experts down the ages have ignored it?' he asked - yet, his interest had been aroused. Following the meeting with the Queen, it was announced that the Leader of the Opposition had been asked to form a national government. With the support of the other two party leaders, he sets out to win over the cabinet, parliament and the country to implement the reform recommended by the letter writer. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Over a period of years Evelyn Scaramanga, a clergyman's widow, collected some of the best loved and most uplifting passages from the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, and arranged them into nine chapters. Each page is written out in calligraphy, in a modern style, but reminiscent of the medieval illuminated manuscript. The originals are in five colours, the fifth, gold, being used for God, and a watercolour is at the start of each chapter. Each page starts with an illuminated initial capital letter set in a miniature painting. Evelyn Scaramanga has been assisted in her choice of translation for the texts by the biblical scholar, Rev John Eddison, to select the one which most clearly conveys the meaning of the original Greek. In all, eight different translations, ranging from the King James Version to the Good News Bible, are represented. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Buch
Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Part of an eight-volume series providing short biographies of men and women from Roman to Victorian times, Who's Who in Early Medieval England spans the period 1066-1272, the period of the Norman Conquest, the murder of Thomas Becket, Magna Carter and Simon de Montfort. Though remote in time, its influence is still evident in the institutions of today. What in 1066 were disparate elements of Anglo-Saxon, Scandinavian and French had by 1272 coalesced into a realm distinctively and self-consciously English. The process was symbolised by the adoption by Henry III, the builder of Westminster Abbey, of Edward the Confessor as his patron saint and the accession in 1272 of his son Edward I, the first King of England with an English name since the conquest. This volume contains over 160 short biographies of men and women who played a prominent part in their time. Each entry places the subject in the context of their age and evokes what was distinctive and interesting about their personality and achievement. The biographies are arranged in a broadly chronological rather than alphabetical sequence so that the reader may easily browse from one contemporary to the next. Paperback. Zustand: Good. This book, which is aimed at the younger reader, endeavours to examine what politics is about in the light of Judaeo-Christian, Liberal-Democratic and Marxist attitudes and beliefs. The authors have drawn upon not only the experiences of Britain and Western Europe but also of the United States and the Far East. At the heart of politics, the book claims, lies the problem of how men and women achieve their desires and expectations under conditions of relative scarcity when the limited resources of the moment have alternative uses. Politics, it is claimed, is about much more than government and administration, parties and elections. It embraces education, information, sciences, technology - in short, the totality of the human situation, and it is global in character. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.

Buch
Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. This book is a paeon of praise to Jerusalem, holy city of three great religions. According to the sages of the Talmud, ten measures of beauty were given to the world and nine of them alighted upon Jerusalem. Drawing on 4000 years of history, Eliane Wilson has sought the soul of this ancient city through the words of kings and prophets, chroniclers and poets, travellers and pilgrims. The words and artist Motke Blum's powerful vision are bound together in a passionate dialogue, each medium inspiring and reflecting the beauty of the other in a quest for the essence of Jerusalem, the city whence Judaism, mother faith of Christianity and Islam, bequeathed mankind the concept of ethical monotheism and the rule of moral law, fulfilling itself in a law of love. The book is a search for the sound and fabric of the living city set amidst the Judean hills. It expresses the spiritual and physical bond between Jews and Jerusalem, a bond unbroken since David, 3000 years ago, made her the capital and the religious centre of the Hebrew nation. It records too the love and veneration of Christians for the city where Jesus wept and the reverence of Moslems for the city of the sacred Dome of the Rock from which the Prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven. Jerusalem and her people have not escaped suffering - again the sages tell us ten measures of suffering were given to the world and nine alighted upon Jerusalem, the city whose name means peace. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. The hundred or so poems in this collection range over a wide variety of subjects. Unusually, they combine a classical structure with a modern style. Her writing reveals keen observation and deep understanding. Her fluency with words and ability to crystallise an emotional moment can transform something very ordinary into something quite exceptional, stimulating the mind or touching the heart. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
