Diese prozesshaften, in ihrer Form offenen Treffen, dieser freie Austausch zwischen allen Beteiligten kennzeichnen unsere Arbeit. Bei unseren Events wandern wir nomadengleich durch die Stadt und betreten ganz unterschiedliche öffentliche wie private Räume, um sie künstlerisch zu nutzen. ABA is an artist-led initiative that reflects on contemporary art and culture in the form of ABA Salons. These processual and open-formed gatherings, and the free exchange between all participants, characterize our work. With our events we move nomadically through the city and enter various public and private spaces in Berlin for temporary artistic use. Bei Aufbau gab er die jungen Unangepassten heraus. 1991 gründete er den Verlag Janus-Press. Er war mit Christa Wolf verheiratet.With an eye trained by modernist painting and early Soviet, Italian, and French cinema and influenced by theatre and poetry, self-taught photographer Helga Paris developed an extensive oeuvre of gently nuanced black-and-white images over a period of four and a half decades. The great trust and confidence that people had in her as an artist and as a person are a hallmark of all her portraits. Her subjects open themselves up to her and let her into their lives. The photographs show figures like Christa Wolf, Elke Erb, and Charlotte E. Pauly in private moments as well as the literary counter-public of Prenzlauer Berg and its protagonists. Zu sehen sind Fotografien und Videoarbeiten aus den vergangenen 20 Jahren. Eine wesentliche Thematik in Zielonys künstlerischem Werk ist die Jugendkultur und ihr Bezug zu Herkunft, Repräsentation und Mode sowie die damit einhergehende Definition von Identität in einer sich verändernden medialen Wirklichkeit. Die digitale Kultur hat zu neuen Kommunikationsformen fotografischer Bilder geführt, die die Idee des Selbst und der (Selbst-)Repräsentation grundlegend verändert haben. In den Arbeiten von Tobias Zielony zeigen sich die Abgebildeten als selbstbewusst Teilnehmende in diesem Wechselspiel - die trotz kultureller und sozialer Unterschiede in einem globalen Austausch sozialer Codes und Selbstbildnisse agieren. Als Verlag hat Spector Books die Arbeit von Tobias Zielony von Beginn an begleitet. 2008 veröffentlichten wir die Publikation Trona, die inzwischen in der dritten Auflage ist. Es folgten die Bände Manitoba (2011), Jenny Jenny (2013), Vele (2014). Diese enge und kontinuierliche gemeinsame Arbeit hat zu einer besonderen Idee für den Katalog der Essener Ausstellung geführt. Montevideo Biennale (2014) sowie Einzelausstellungen im Philadelphia Museum of Art (2011) und der Berlinischen Galerie (2013).--In summer 2021, the Museum Folkwang in Essen will be showing the work of Tobias Zielony in a large survey exhibition, featuring photographs and video works from the last twenty years. One of the key themes in Zielony's artistic work is youth culture, its relationship to background, status, and fashion, and the definition of identity associated with this in a realm where the realities of the medium are shifting. Digital culture has revolutionized the ways in which photographic images can communicate, fundamentally altering the idea of the self and self-representation. In Zielony's works, the subjects of his pictures appear as self-aware participants in this process of interaction-engaging in a global exchange of social codes and self-images, irrespective of the cultural and social differences between the people involved. Spector Books has consistently supported Zielony's work from the start of his career. In 2008 we published Trona, now in its third edition, followed by Manitoba (2011), Jenny Jenny (2013), and Vele (2014). This sus- tained process of close collaboration has given rise to an unusual idea for the catalogue for the Essen exhibition. It is to be published as a series of six small volumes, each showing two to four works in full and accompanied by a text that creates a counterpoint to these works in the form of an essay or piece of fiction. Six protagonists of the new literary generation-Sophia Eisenhut, Joshua Gross, Dora Koderhold, Enis Maci, Mazlum Nergiz, and Jakob Nolte-have agreed to take part in this project.
