Paperback. Zustand: Good. From the camp horror classic The Creature from the Black Lagoon to Scarface, many films have indelible connections to Florida. This guide to Florida cinema and locations reveals that the Sunshine State has been an integral part not only of America's film history but also of its cultural history. Doll and Morrow group more than 80 films shot in Florida by theme, covering each movie with a plot synopsis, cast and credits list, and a discussion of the film's importance. They feature behind-the-scenes views of the making of each film, analyze each film's connection with its Florida locale, and offer an abundance of details and revelations about the filmmakers and stars. Each chapter concludes with a Movie Tourist's Guide to sites connected to the films that can be visited by the public. Cinema scholars will appreciate the authors' attention to forgotten films and little-known pioneers from the silent era. Movie tourists will want to venture to famous locations, such as those in South Beach, where scenes from Scarface and The Birdcage were filmed. And Florida natives will enjoy the book's references to the state's history and unique attractions, including Weeki Wachee Springs, Cypress Gardens, and Ross Allen's Reptile Institute. Florida on Film is the essential guide for anyone interested in the history of film-making in the Sunshine State. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.

Paperback. Zustand: Fine. This volume is the first to provide a comprehensive Latin American perspective on the role of humor in the Spanish- and Portuguese-language internet, highlighting how the production and circulation of online humor influence the regions relation to democracy and civil society and the production of meaning in everyday life. Several case studies consider memes, including discussions of political cartoons in Mexico and imagery that portrays the mismanagement of natural disasters in Puerto Rico. Essays on Brazil examine how memes are shared on WhatsApp by Jair Bolsonaro supporters and how the Instagram account Barbie Fascionista offers memes as political commentary. Other case studies consider video content, including the sketches of Argentinian comedian Guillermo Aquino, the short-form material of Chilean vlogger German Garmendia, and a satirical YouTube column created by journalists in Colombia. Contributors also offer new methodologies for studying the laughable on social media, including a model for analyzing fake Twitter accounts. Internet, Humor, and Nation in Latin America demonstrates that internet humor can generate novel means of public interaction with the political and cultural spheres and create greater expectations of governmental accountability and democratic participation. This volume shows the importance of paying serious attention to humorous digital content as part of contemporary culture. Paperback. Zustand: Fair. Marian Horosko brings together new and previously published interviews of Martha Graham's "family" of dancers, teachers, choreographers and actors and interweaves them with provocative biographical material about the life and influence of the creator of classic modern dance. Spanning the past 75 years, the interviews testify to the remarkable legacy that inspired the careers of many in the dance world, among them dancers from the contemporary generation who inherited her technique, but never saw her perform. The interviews of teachers, all former Graham students, reflect their passion for maintaining Graham's few fixed principles and her emotional integrity. Some of the foremost actors of Graham's time (she died in 1991) describe their stormy encounters with her in the process of her attempts to teach them that "movement doesn't lie". Although not a textbook - no textbook describing the exercises exists at the time of publication - this book offers a syllabus of Graham's work. Drawn from a private film of a class for her advanced and professional company members in the 1960s, it includes comments from Graham and testifies to her use of imagery in teaching. Photographs that capture the dancers' physical configuration document the development of Graham's choreographic legacy, which expanded and changed as she created each new work, more than 200 in all. These images, along with the interviews and commentary, plot the evolution of Graham's methodology and vocabulary of movement, on which classical modern dance continues to rely.
